Iceberg

Image
Iceberg So was an iceberg responsible for the sinking of the Titanic?  If the Titanic didn’t sink would Kate Winslet have a career? What would James Cameron be obsessed with?  He is spending tons of money studying the wreckage...good for him.  Shouldn’t that money be spent on world problems?  It’s easy for me to say as I don’t have that kind of money.  Hard to say what I would do if I did.  Does someone want to give me the money to find out?

Lei

Image
Lei Flower necklace, you can’t help but smile.  I think I smile because I think of how it is made and reminds me of popcorn strands for the Christmas tree.  I haven’t made one of those in ages.  Since I do not have a pet, I should make them this year.  My Christmas decorations this year have to make up for the lackluster attempt last year.  Don’t judge, I was in Australia.

Baby Socks

Image
Baby Socks So tiny, however they do not last.  I’m not talking quality, I’m talking fit.  Babies grow so fast.  I sometimes can’t comprehend that I was once that small.  Growing up is such a journey and incredible.  I wish I could stop, getting older is scary, partly because you don’t know what is coming.  When I was younger not knowing was exciting, now it is sort of petrifying.  I learned to think and analyze and because of this I’m now cynical.  I understand that I can control my future, however I wish it would all fall into a nice place without me directing it.

Something a Bit Different

Image
Something a Bit Different In today’s case it was the windows of a new tall building as they were different shades of blue and different shapes.  It made me do a double take because it was not what I expected.  It reminded me of a design that I painted on the walls of my first apartment in Ottawa.  I thought for sure the landlord was going to make me repaint before I left.  They did not, so  guess they were OK with it.  Does that confirm that perhaps my taste in decor is acceptable?  Now I accent with pillows, so much cleaner and less time consuming to make a change.

Finisher Medal

Image
Finisher Medal I wore mine with pride on the walk home, now what do I do with it?  I have a bunch hanging from my coat hook, this does nothing but collect dust.  I can’t bring myself to toss them away because I have earned every one.  Today’s event came with a puke at the finish line and a personal best time too.  I might turn them into Christmas tree ornaments.  This way I will get to relive the proud moment of it getting placed on my neck from awesome volunteers when I place it on the tree.

My View

Image
My View I should appreciate it now because once the buildings are constructed in front, I will have nothing. It is a good thing I cleaned the windows today, as I now see it very clearly. Even went and got a plant to but atop the bistro set. The seller of the plant was very helpful, so this plant should do well in this location. I will call it Bruce. My plants inside are all happy, let's see if I can keep Bruce happy outside. I never had great luck with outdoor plants.

Downpour

Image
Downpour Does anyone think of securing things in case of heavy winds? We don’t live in an area that is prone to tornadoes (I don’t think), so it is not something I think about. My little bistro set sits on the balcony and I never think twice about it. Frankly I don’t remember the last time I sat on it. In fact it is filthy. Maybe tomorrow I will make an effort to clean it and the sliding door. There is so much construction across the street so the cleaning exercise will be futile, but I guess it’s the same argument about making your bed. Why do it if you are just going to get into it again?

Face After a Yawn

Image
Face After a Yawn So relaxed and having a hint of a smirk. Are yawns contagious? I thought there was some validity to that argument, however more related to the situation. Likely something “boring” happening. Today that was proven false, I saw someone yawn while in their car and then I yawned. I’m yawning right now.  Am I just tired today or does just typing the word yawn provoke the action. Yawns are weird. Did you yawn reading this?

Fresh Laid Grass

Image
Fresh Laid Grass Who says “one day I want to be a sod farmer"? Rich people that is who. There is a market for green grass ready to roll out and plant. There can’t be that many farms that do this. On second thought you would need a very large area and a lot of praying to the weather gods. You might not make as much as I thought. I guess the same is true for Christmas tree farms, however the tree farms have to wait a few seasons for their trees to reach optimum tree height. I assume that grass grows every season, maybe more than once. Who knows I never wanted to be a sod farmer so never looked into it.

Hand Addressed Envelope

Image
Hand Addressed Envelope Someone had to time to think of me. The person who wrote the envelope had to physically write my name. That makes me feel special.

My Mom

Image
My Mom Yes, I’m biased and yes it is her birthday, but my mom is beautiful inside and out. Her smile is awesome and I'm glad there are things in her life that make her smile. Me forgetting (well being busy) and not calling is not one of those reasons. I’m a bad daughter and sent an email highlighting that to her. I’m sure that there are worse daughters out there but my mom deserves the world and I feel bad that I didn’t get around to calling her. I guess I owe her a bigger gift. Shopping for mom so close to Mother’s Day is difficult, especially for someone who “needs nothing” but deserves the world. Wish me luck.

Dock

Image
Dock Bobbing atop the water, extending land a bit further. Amazing what lying on a dock reading a book all day (yes all day...8hrs) will do to reset you. Staring out to other docks, with people doing the exact same thing. Alone but unified. Waves crashing beneath, the sound calming. To think it only took 40 minutes to get here from the city. I get why people cottage. I need to find me someone who can help me afford a retreat. Apparently money is what I need to relax. Go figure.

Stars

Image
Stars A clear night and the stars are so bright. I’m still not able to find the big dipper. There is always another night to try. I’m sure some people can find it no problem. Perhaps I should have studied astronomy. Regardless anyone can look at stars as there will always be sky. Might have to drive out of the city to see, but a drive can be beautiful too.

Tan

Image
Tan Too bad it is not good for you. Or is it? Something along the lines of needed vitamin D, which we get from the sun. That being said, being in the sun is bad, cancer winkles, tan lines… The last thing is what I’m worried about this weekend. I have to wear a strapless dress in July and tan lines are not part of the look. The colour of the dress needs a tan to “pop”. I might be investing in an airbrush tan.

Rose Petals

Image
Rose Petals Is it cheaper to sprinkle rose petals or the foil confetti as table top decor? This is what I was thinking about at dinner tonight. There were petals everywhere, which made me think of the high cost of flower centerpieces. Roses are not the cheapest type of flower. Frankly I did not like the rose petal decor, while pretty it reminded me of dead flowers, wilted and unwanted. Can’t really take home that centrepiece either. Dinner on the other hand was fantastic. Crappy decor is allowed if food is good.

Dogies

Image
Dogies Can’t pick just one type. They all have beautiful eyes. Eyes that say “I love you”, “I need you” and “please” all at the sametime. I don’t know how I could walk into the humane society and pick. Knowing that I left “eyes” behind would be so hard. I would have them only bring me out one dog, and then tell me it was the last one. Soon, I will have one of my own. I tell myself that if I win more the $500 on the scratch crossword  ticket I would get a dog and name it one of the words that I won with.

Pregnant Belly

Image
Pregnant Belly Not too pregnant, just when it starts to show and the “mom” can see her toes and doesn’t yet waddle. What is wrong with me? I see pregnant and I think “what an inconvenient way to transport something”. Why not on our backs? When we carry something heavy we use our backs. Hello backpacks! Fanny packs are small for a reason. I know it's not possible..but think of the possibilities.

Grill marks

Image
Grill marks Today I started my diet, so that is why grill marks look so good to me today. It’s not that I’m starving myself it is quite the opposite. I’m eating all the time..I’m just eating what is written on the plan. I guess so things on the plan can be grilled, but I don’t have a BBQ. So there is that.

Kite

Image
Kite Batteries not required, such the perfect toy.  Requires you to be outside and run around.  Saw them attached to surfboards and skateboards...I can only imagine the core strength to do that.  Kites look beautiful flying in the air...the ones I saw today looked like snowflakes which was ironic because today was a pleasant, summer like day.  I wonder how much kites cost, are the tangled up strings and frustration worth the serenity of them gliding through the air.

Rims

Image
Rims I like mine, I guess that’s a good thing, since I picked and paid for them. Such a personal choice they were. I didn’t want shiny, chrome, nor did I want something where you could see the breaks. These were not my first choice, as the ones I picked (after much time reviewing the catalog) were not in stock. I think the guy took me for a “ride”. A girl with no background in cars, asking for tires and rims with little knowledge about the actual specs...they saw me coming a mile away. Oh well at least they are pretty.

Building Under Construction

Image
Building Under Construction This is beautiful to me because it is part of what I do. I get approvals so buildings can get built. Not only does seeing an active construction site mean a new project, it also means someone has navigated the approval process. I will leave it at this, as if I don’t stop writing this will become a rant about “red tape” and the land development process. Nothing beautiful about that.

Braid

Image
Braid There are so many types of braids. I think I can do them all, all but the fishtail braid. I have tried and no matter what I do I cannot master it. I think I might resort to “googling” it. You can “google” anything. I think I “google” about 4 times a day. It is really sad. I no longer retain information because I know that google will tell me. This leaves room in my brain for things like the lyrics to New Kids “Cover Girl”. Why is that still in my head?

Feather

Image
Feather Not the dirty ones you find floating in the water, but the brightly coloured ones. Chances are these “pretty” feathers are made in a factory and sold as accessories. The only beautiful, real feather I have ever seen was attached to a bird. The peacock for example is stunning, only really when he is strutting with his full plumage on show. Female peacocks are plain and I find that completely opposite of humans.

Freckles

Image
Freckles Like curly hair, I bet the people with freckles wished they didn’t have them and the ones without wished they did. To me they are cute and add something unique and different to the face. Others could see skin cancer, sun spots, damage. I guess those with the freckles have to be careful in the sun, but shouldn’t we all?

A Runner

Image
A Runner You never know how far they have already run or how much more they have to go. Every shape and size can do it, speed doesn't matter. You start putting one foot in front of the other on a journey most likely to take you back to where you started.

Butterfly

Image
Butterfly Transformation for a butterfly is different than it is for us humans. Let me explain. A caterpillar knows what it will become, whereas there is no denying that a butterfly will emerge from a cocoon. We have no idea that we will become. Sure, we have ideas, but nothing is a given, other than we will be older. We have so much control over what we will become, however there are many things that can alter that control. Sometimes I wish there was a cocoon that I could retreat to and restart/emerge differently.

“Big” Full Moon

Image
“Big” Full Moon The moon is bigger than it normally is, well according to scientists. It is lighting up the whole sky. Glad it is not overcast as that would be a write off of the “big” moon. Apparently there is a face you can see in the moon, one would assume that tonight would be a good time to see it. Alas, I do not. Am I blind? Not creative enough? Too tired? I think I saw it when I was younger. Getting older and wiser is making the world less fun.

Misty Playing Field

Image
Misty Playing Field A place that begs to be used, where everything is even. There is not yet a winner or a loser. No one has been hurt, no one has let anyone down or elated the crowd. It remains a mystery. The practice is in the past, all that is left is the future, there may be odds, hail Mary's may pan out and it’s not over until the final whistle...so game on!

Coral

Image
Coral For a swimmer I have never scuba dived. I have no desire to see the living underwater world in person. This has nothing to do with my dislike of eating fish, but everything to do with being able to breathe. I like knowing the surface of the water is close and a simple tilt or turn of the head means air. When you are down under with artificial air attached to your back, that to me is nothing but fear and panic. No matter how beautiful and surreal the underwater world is, a picture is just fine.

Light Bulb Filament

Image
Light Bulb Filament Light, like water is there when I need it. Tap on = water. Light switch flicked, illumination. Frustration is what I feel when the power or water is off, even if temporary and I have been warned. I could not imagine if I didn’t have these luxuries. Thinking about people that don’t is not something I like to do. Is it wrong for me to live in this bubble, ignoring others? Others that cannot help themselves? Even as I write this I feel like a horrible person, but what can I do? Use less water and power so that resources deplete less quickly so that one day when these necessities are accessible by all, there will actually be resources to tap into. Excuse me while I go turn off all the non-required power users.

Green Grass

Image
Green Grass The grass you want to run barefoot through. Unlike sand, grass doesn’t get too hot. You can always walk on it no matter the temperature. As much as I like condo living and could raise a family in one (one larger than my current 800 sqft), kids should run barefoot through the grass and jump through sprinklers. You need a lawn for these activities, a place that is green and safe. I get the suburbs and the need for them. I might not want the large house on the lot, but I want a patch of green. Kids need grass.
